Explosion safety philosophy for oilfield in Schoonebeek

November NAM will start producing oil in the Schoonebeek oilfield. NAM assigned DHV to set up an explosion protection document to comply with the European Explosion Safety regulations.

Between 1943 and 1996 the Dutch oilcompany NAM produced 250 million barrels oil in Schoonebeek, a small town in the east of the Netherlands. In 1996 the field was no longer profitable and all wells were abandoned and most surface infrastructure was removed.

Today, a part of the field is profitable again by using up-to-date subsurface and surface technologies. The project will deliver more than 100 million barrels of oil and 120 MW of electrical power.

The oilfield redeveloping consortium consists of Jacobs Nederland, Stork Industry Services, Visser & Smit Hanab and Yokogawa Europe.
